Message from Conference Chairman

Welcome to the Fifth International Conference on Design Engineering and Science (ICDES 2020) from November 3 to 5 in 2020. On behalf of the Japan Society for Design Engineering, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all participants for their contribution to this Conference. ICDES was held firstly in 2005 in Vienna Austria, secondly in 2010 in Tokyo Japan, thirdly in 2015 in Pilsen, Czech Republic, and fourthly in 2017 in in Aachen, Germany. In every time more than 70 papers were presented.

It is with great regret that we need to announce that the ICDES 2020 cannot take place face-to-face congress in Kitakyushu in November 3 to 5 in 2020 due to the continuous spread of the COVID-19 virus. We have decided that ICDES 2020 should be held online on the same dates with the same exciting scientific program. Being online does not change the essential of international conference. All papers are presented orally at the conference and included in the conference proceedings. Some excellent papers are selected for best paper awards, and the selected papers can be submitted to MM-SJ (Modern Machinery Science Journal) on a priority basis.

Finally, I would like to thank all participants in this conference, guest speakers, organizing and program committee members, JSDE staffs, volunteers and assisting students.
